Green Purchasing Network India (GPNI) is an evolving network of professionals interested and active in the area of sustainable production and consumption more specifically: in Green Purchasing and Public Procurement.
The GPNI recently concluded a research activity titled “Carbon Footprinting as a Strategy to Promote Green Purchasing in India”.
For a rapidly developing economy like India, the increasing economic activity is a welcome change, the resulting environmental impact too cannot be neglected. The promotion of “Green Purchasing” presents a situation which could contribute to both increased economic activity as well as benefit the environment. In order to promote the concept of Green Purchasing, the carbon foot printing of the products could be a viable proposition to support consumers in responsible decision making. However with limited information availability on the Carbon footprinting in the Life cycle context of the product may be process long drawn to achieve the desired results. In this context a India centric study was conducted by the GPNI.
